Digestive Disease Week (DDW)
DDW is an annual meeting for professionals working in gastroenterology, hepatology, GI endoscopy, gastrointestinal surgery and related fields. Several 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ gastroenterologists and fellows attended Digestive Disease Week in San Diego, California in May 2025 to enhance their expertise in the latest research, cutting-edge technologies and treatment protocols leading to improved patient outcomes.
91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Gastroenterology Fellow Dr. Eliza Cricco-Lizza spoke about her project, which looks to clarify expert practices and perspectives regarding the diagnosis and management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) after Peroral Endoscopy Myotomy (POEM)—a procedure to treat swallowing disorders.

Highlights from the DIGEST Team’s Global Lectures and Presentations in 2024
American Foregut Society (AFS) Annual Meeting
Dr. Felice Schnoll-Sussman served in 2024 as President of the American Foregut Society (AFS). AFS is a group of gastroenterologists and surgeons who collaborate to personalize treatment and improve patient outcomes in foregut disease. Dr. Schnoll-Sussman gave the presidential address at the annual AFS conference in September 2024 in Aurora, Colorado, where she spoke about the resilience of women in gastroenterology as they continue to break barriers and societal norms. Dr. Gaurav Ghosh led a General GI course at the conference on the latest breakthroughs in foregut disease management and treatment. Dr. Philip Katz and Dr. Carolyn Newberry also gave lectures at the conference on topics including women in the foregut and upper GI procedure considerations.

American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Annual Scientific Meeting
ACG is a medical organization that supports gastroenterologists and other health care professionals to provide and improve care for patients’ digestive health. At the annual meeting in Philadelphia in October 2024, WCM had gastroenterologists, residents, and medical students share their research and perspectives. Among the many presentations, Dr. Calley Levine held a leadership course on Women’s Initiative for Success and Evaluation in GI, Dr. Robert Brown discussed cases involving patients with primary biliary cholangitis, and Dr. Arun Jesudian talked about cirrhosis.
Rhea Fogla, a WCM resident, presented research findings from the DIGEST center at the ACG conference. She described differences between two technologies (EndoFLIP and manometry) that diagnose swallowing disorders and discussed how each may help to explain a patient’s symptoms.
41st Annual Columbia & Cornell Update in Gastroenterology & Hepatology (CCGI)
CCGI is a conference focused on the latest advancements and practices in the digestive health arena. This annual CCGI conference was held in December 2024 at 91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ in the Uris Auditorium. WCM gastroenterologists Dr. Robert Brown (Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at WCM and NewYork-Presbyterian/91³ÉÈ˵¼º½ Cornell Medical Center), Dr. Michelle Cohen and Dr. Christine Frissora were the course directors. WCM gastroenterologists spoke on topics ranging from liver disease to esophageal disorders.
